SkillsUSA Team Places at MoDOT Bridge Competition

Each year, members of Ste. Genevieve High School’s SkillsUSA compete in the annual MoDOT Bridge Competition. After these students spent weeks figuring out how to build their version of an efficient model bridge, they received third place for best overall performance out of more than 30 competing schools! The competition was held on Nov. 17 at Southeast Missouri State University.

The team is led by industrial technology teacher Kenny Rapp, and received a $200 cash prize. Prize donations and supply sponsorships were made possible by the following businesses and organizations: SE Chapter Transportation Employee Association of Missouri, SE Chapter of Missouri Society of Professional Engineers, Three Rivers College, Bacon Farmer Workman Engineering & Testing, and the Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety.

The MoDOT Bridge Building Competition challenges high school juniors and seniors to design and construct the most efficient model bridge using limited materials—balsa wood, thread and glue.
